Dr. Christine March, Assistant Professor, Pediatric endocrinologist at UPMC

Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Dr. March primarily takes care of children, adolescents, and young adults with type 1 and 2 diabetes.  Much of her work is focused on school-based interventions to support children, families, and school nurses.

In this webinar, Dr. March will review recent innovations in screening, prevention, and management of type 1 diabetes. She will review the science behind screening for early-stage type 1 diabetes and new research/treatments to prevent progression of the disease in asymptomatic children. For children with type 1 diabetes, Dr. March will briefly review new interventions for integrated care between diabetes centers and schools. Practical considerations for nurses will be discussed, including the NH DOE toolkit, raising awareness about type 1 diabetes screening, and providing resources for those interested in learning more.

Obesity in Children & Teens: Causes, Prevention and Treatment, Presented by Wendy Wright ARNP

Obesity in children and teens is a growing public health concern in the United States.
It can lead to a range of serious health problems, including type 2 diabetes, high blood
pressure, and psychological issues such as low self-esteem. Early intervention and
healthy lifestyle habits are essential to help prevent and manage obesity in young people.
This webinar reviews evidence-based approaches to evaluating and treating pediatric and
adolescent obesity, focusing on medication.

Wendy L. Wright, DNP, FNP-C, FAANP, FAAN, is a distinguished nurse practitioner with extensive experience in clinical care, education, and entrepreneurship. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama and completed advanced programs at Simmons University. Dr. Wright owns an award-winning NP-led clinic in New Hampshire, leads a medical education company, and serves as Chief Clinical Officer of a technology startup supporting NP-owned clinics. Her many honors include being named among the Top 100 Scholars by the University of Alabama, NH Nurse Practitioner of the Year, and one of America's Top 10 NPs. She is also an author and founder of the NH Chamber of Commerce.
